Robert ‘Bob’ Meintz

Robert "Bob" Meintz, 66 of Powers, passed away Friday, Dec. 18, 2009, at Bay Area Medical Center.

Bob was born on July 17, 1943, in Stephenson, to Veronica (Sartich) and the late Harry Meintz Sr. Bob was raised in Stephenson and was the valedictorian of the Class of 1961. On Aug. 4, 1962, Bob married the former Judy Sundstrom and they would make their home in Powers. In 1964 Bob graduated Magna Cum Laude from Michigan State University with a degree in agronomy. He worked at the Midland Fertilizer Plant in Powers until 1986; he then went to work at Ray's Feed Mill in Bark River until his retirement in 2008. Bob was also the owner of B&J Trees and sold Christmas trees in Kenosha, Wis., for 23 years with his daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Larry Jenkins.

They also made and sold maple syrup in the spring.

Bob was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed his annual fishing trips to Isle Royale with his grandsons and family beginning when he was 15 years old, hunting and golfing. Most of all, he enjoyed time spent with his family and friends taking fishing trips to Canada, New Zealand, Alaska, Costa Rica, Mexico, and Hawaii and going camping. Bob was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Spalding, the Normenco Sportsmen Club, the Powers/Spalding Lions Club, and member and former president of the IXL Museum. He also served on the Menominee County Planning Commission since 1974 and was the only long standing member with no missed terms. Bob served on the North Central Board of Education for 24 years.

Survivors include his mother, Veronica; wife, Judy; three daughters, Jean (Mike) Nuttall of Stephenson, Kathy (Larry) Jenkins of Carney, and Patti Meintz of Detroit; sister, Lori (Don) Brill of Neenah; two brothers, Fred (Celeste) of Peshtigo, and Harry Jr. (Candy) of Stephenson; three grandchildren, Anne, Andrew, and Adam Nuttall; sisters-in law, Paula Meintz of Menominee and Wanda (Ed) Berkery of Stephenson; special friends Julie and Louise Willie of Marinette; and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call at Anderson Diehm Funeral Home on Monday Dec. 21, from 4 until 8 p.m. and again on Tuesday Dec. 22, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Spalding from 10 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Father Michael Vichich officiating. Burial will be in Stephenson Township Cemetery.
